Architecture Does Not Have to be Square

The 1940s were a tough time for almost everyone, but not so for a little boy with a big imagination. Frank Owen Gehry, born and raised Ephraim Owen Goldberg in Toronto, Ontario, was intrigued with the most insignificant of articles, trash to most. Ephraim’s grandfather owned a hardware store that held many treasures in creating new and exciting little cities. Today, Frank Gehry tops the list as one of the most accomplished architects and designers in the world with his buildings and modern furniture.

Deconstructivist architecture, or DeCon, is often mentioned when making reference to Frank Gehrys architectural designs. Apart from the culturally inherited universality of form, his work outrages some who practice stiff, selected standards. To Gehry, everything does not have to be constructed with a T-square or conservative materials. Sleek and intriguing with a hint of magic and fun makes a Gehry creation stands alone. A graduate of the University of Southern California’s School of Architecture, along with the study of city planning at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, prepared Gehry to fully understand and extend his colossal ideas.

Gehry doesn’t spend all of his time on designing structurally radical landmarks but also enjoys smaller designs with sculpture, household items, jewelry and furniture. Heller furniture features the Frank Gehry line of furniture that Gehry has designed for simplicity, comfort and fun, indoors or out. This is not the first line that has been presented by the architectural icon but one that stands out as lasting.

Gehry seems to have an insatiable appetite for creating new designs more fascinating than the last. Some of his memorable work includes the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California, USA, and the Gehry Tower in Hanover, Germany. Present jobs in progress, added regularly, include Guggenheim Abu Dhabi (GAD), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and the Untitled Five Star Hotel & Event Center in Lehi, Utah, USA.

Destined to portray useful art without limits, Gehry never seems to run out of ideas. While most of us cannot exhibit first-hand one of his shimmering, international buildings or a rare fish sculpture located in front of the Fishdance Restaurant in Kobe, Japan, we can own a piece of Gehrys legend. His outdoor furniture line by Heller features benches, chairs, modern couches, tables and cubes for a personal collection of Gehry, close to none.

We hope this icon of architecture and modern designer furniture continues to amaze us with his work in the years to come. Inducted into the California Hall of Fame by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver in 2006, Gehrig’s work will always be preserved but what an honor to have part of this legacy in your own home.

Orange22 - A New Society

Imagine stepping back in time, say one hundred years, and comparing our present world’s landscape full of lush forests, sparkling streams and rolling hillsides to that of yesteryear. Your reaction would most likely be one of disbelief. Little by little, our society has whittled away nearly every resource given us until the demented air quality and baroness has crept up without notice. While plenty of organizations and politicians voice their support of a new ‘green’ way of life, one company in the modern furniture business has already sprung into action.

Orange22, a Los Angeles based design firm that was founded in 2000, decided that it was time to give back to society and our world to begin the much needed change. Their newly released project referred to as Blank Canvas Project is doing just that. Chosen icons in the professional art world are stamping their personal mark of design, making it possible for everyone to enjoy a piece of signature art in their home that is both unique and functional.

The staff of Orange22 is dedicated to using only earth friendly materials in their designs in an effort to conform society into realizing that it is not necessary to destroy the earth to present beauty in designs. In addition to creating awesome one of a kind masterpieces, this group has yet another goal. The need for helping mankind with such problems as cancer, AIDS, and education are but a few of the areas where worldwide artists of today are leading.

Dario Antonioni is the founder and creative director of Orange22 and the driving force behind the Botanist Blank Canvas Project. Unequaled to any other program today, his group of designers begin with a blank piece of ‘green’ furniture and leave their own artistic mark of design, making it possible for anyone to own their legend. More importantly, a portion of the proceeds are donated to an organization or charity of the artist’s choosing.

Such recognized names as Massimo and Lella Vignelli, Milton Glaser and Clause Zellweger leave their individualized signature on each piece offered. Owning a work of art by these greats is not only desirable but functional, as well. Sturdy, lightweight, and environmentally friendly, the bench, coffee table or end table can grace a furniture grouping or stand alone in any home or office.

The steps that have been taken by Dario Antonioni and his firm that are already well known for empowering the ultra modern designer furniture world to bring about social change does not look to be ending any time soon. Orange22 will continue to come up with new ingenuity to provide leadership for today and tomorrow.

The History Behind The Burning Frankincense

The ancient practice of aromatherapy: the burning of herbs and other botanicals to achieve desirable results. The practice of burning frankincense has been done for hundreds of years if not thousands, in places linked with worship and meditation. The popular practice of burning frankincense sparked some people to incorporate the adding of frankincense essence to a lot of things that rely on scent to make relax people and make them feel good, things such as shampoos, lotions, perfumes and other aromatherapy items! .

Feelings Soothed And Meditative

The practice of burning frankincense for meditative reasons signals a desire for introspection. The reason that many people burn frankincense lays in the belief that burning frankincense can enhance one’s meditative prowess, and helps to slow and deepen breathing. The smell of frankincense can induce a potent introspection that many believe to be beneficial due to its calming and soothing effect.

Burning frankincense may be the time honoured way of experiencing t! he frankincense scent but when incorporated into massage therapy oil, frankincense essential oil works well. Not only does frankincense essential oil help to sooth and relax the muscles but it also has anti-inflammatory properties and can act as an anti-septic agent. Regular massages with frankincense essential oil can also promote improved digestion as well as reproductive systems in women.

The relaxing and calm atmosphere that burning frankincense promotes is most desirable for people under a great deal of stress. The deeper and slower breaths that occur to a person inhaling burning frankincense or the smell of frankincense help with some respiratory conditions. There are many other conditions that may improve with the aid of this scent.

Ways Of Burning Frankincense

There are several ways to burn frank incense. These are with the use of a candle burner, with a diffuser and through the burning of incense sticks. Burning frankincense with a candle burner and a diffuser is similar with some differences in the way that the essential oil is burnt. Candle burners usually have a small pool with some oil filled halfway with a tea light candle burning directly below it. Diffusers on the other hand do not use candles to generate heat, instead they use electricity. Burning frankincense through incense sticks is the usually done in places of worship and prayer.

The centuries old method is still the most common means being used for burning frankincense; this is done by taking hardened resin, called “tears”, and placing them on live coals. This is the method that people in the Middle East discovered a long time ago and still find it the best.
